Kenya’s national masters swimmers stepped up their preparations on Friday, 27th February 2026, with a joint training session at Crawford International School ahead of the 41st South Africa National Masters Swimming Championship scheduled for March 11–14 in George, South Africa.
Speaking in Nairobi after the weekend practice session, team captain Peter Nduati said the squad is ready to represent the country with pride and test itself against seasoned competitors from across the continent. He also thanked the sponsors who have supported the team financially and in kind.
“I would like to thank Kenya Aquatics for giving masters swimmers the opportunity to compete internationally. Such exposure is key to raising standards, even though the team is largely self-sponsored,” said Nduati. He also appreciated Crawford International School for offering its well-maintained training facility at no cost during the build-up phase.
The 17-member squad will leave the country on March 10, 2026, flying to Johannesburg before connecting to George, carrying with them the hopes of a growing masters swimming movement back home.
Kenya Aquatics Technical Director Omar Omari confirmed that masters swimming has grown steadily across the country, attracting more adults who are rediscovering competitive sport.
“Beyond medals, the discipline offers strong health benefits and creates networks that extend into business and professional spaces,” Omari said.
After the South Africa showdown, the veterans will have little time but will immediately shift focus to the Kenya Aquatics National Masters Swimming Championship on 11th April 2026 at Bandari Maritime Academy in Mombasa.
The calendar will also see Kenyan swimmers compete in Ghana at the second Africa Aquatics Masters Swimming Championship and later in October at the Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championship in Kampala.
Kenya’s Masters National Team will wrap up preparations on Friday, 6th March 2026, at Crawford International School, where Kenya Aquatics officials and sponsors are expected to officially flag them off.
